For a healthy and blissful start to 2013 why not start planning your spa or detox breaks? Although spa and wellness centre hotels are not known for their good value prices – there are a few exceptions. From pampering spa breaks to advanced medical wellness centres here are some of cheapest spa and wellness hotels around the world:

Eastern Europe is a good place to start your budget spa break search. Many Eastern European countries combine forward thinking medical centres with the healing powers of the local nutrient-rich thermal waters. They also offer exceptional value, especially compared to the rest of Europe. For a place that takes your ailments very seriously, try the medical institute Hotel Merkur, located in the attractive Serbian spa town of Vrnjačka Banja. This affordable spa hotel couldn’t be better located. The lodge is perched on a vista adjacent to the active Arenal Volcano and the surrounding area is filled with natural hot springs. Catering to both families and couples,  you can make use of the spa baths and other wellness facilities, including sauna, gym and massage services. Organic food is also served where possible. Although the lodge doesn’t offer a huge range of wellness options (like some of the other hotels on the list) the incredible views more than make up for that.
