Although this will hardly put visitors off. People will always be drawn here for the city’s beauty and romantic reputation – especially around Valentines Day. For those travellers without deep pockets, here is our pick for 10 of the best budget hotels in Paris:
1. Soft hotel

This is a friendly modern hotel, whose penchant for tasteful soft furnishings and designer scatter cushions certainly ensures it lives up to it’s name. The newly renovated contemporary budget boutique is also excellently located. It’s within walking distance of Gare de l’Est and Republique metro stations and in an accessible distance from many of the capital’s most beautiful attractions, including Sacré Coeur, the Louvre, the Notre Dame Cathedral. The rooms although small, are a good standard of design for the price and come with soft beds ensuring a good night sleep. A continental breakfast is also included in the room rate.

2. Hotel Home Moderne

This is a lower priced hotel in Paris, but one that takes pride in its appearance. Offering very good value for money – especially for a centrally located hotel – there are 63 homely but modern (and soundproofed) rooms to choose from. Every room comes with a good range of amenities including Wi-Fi connection and a 32 inch LCD TV. Based in south of Paris, it occupies a quiet area of Paris next to the attractive Georges Brassens park but is also handily accessible to all the major sites.

3. Hôtel de la Herse d’Or

A typically Parisian historical hotel which is big on character. If you’re a person who doesn’t worry about too many mod-cons but would rather stay somewhere a little more atmospheric then this hotel is for you. You will probably fall in love with this 400 year old building which is actually one of the oldest boutique hotels in Paris. Decor is suitably authentic – think ancient marble fireplace mantels and rustic beamed ceilings and if you can bring yourself to leave, you’ll have the lively Marais district on your door step.

4. Hotel Des Arts Montmartre

This is about as good value as you can get in the cobbled, scenic and highly fashionable district of Montmarte. Only a short stroll from the Basilique du Sacré Coeur and lodged between the world famous Moulin Rouge and Place du Tertre is this sweet and cosy lower priced hotel. The decor is comfortable and of a good standard with a choice of en-suite bathrooms or shared bathrooms for those on a really strict budget. Although the real reason to stay is being only a few steps away from some of the best independent art galleries, shops and bistros in the capital.

5. Hotel de la Porte Doree

For a true taste of nostalgic Paris try the beautiful Hotel de la Porte. It’s an excellent value (and very popular) boutique hotel located only a few blocks from the Bois de Vincennes and within walking distance to the local metro. Homely, well run with an elegant classic French decor, this kind of styling is much sort after but becoming increasingly harder to find in the capital. Being on the outer edges of the city you’ll also feel much less of a tourist – it’s positioned in a true Parisian neighbourhood, surrounded by traditional flower, vegetable and butcher shops.

6. Color Design Hotel

If you’re looking for something a little more modern then why not give the futuristic Color Design Hotel a whirl? It’s a funky new design hotel located in an accessible area of Paris close to many of the major sites. The hotel has white minimalistic decor interspersed with the odd splash of colour and each floor has its own individual colour theme. More comfortable and contemporary than luxurious, this hotel would suit anyone looking for a modern lower-priced place to stay. The rooms are small but come with a good range of facilities.

7. Hotel du Printemps

This budget boutique hotel is located on a quiet, tree-lined boulevard, near the Place de la Nation and only a five minute walk to the Metro. Recently renovated but still keeping its original charm, the hotel features rustic style timber beams, a country cottage-esque chimney in the lounge and a pretty interior patio. Also features Wi-Fi internet access, flat screen televisions and environment-friendly reversible air conditioners. A little further out, but offers very good value for money.

Sometimes, a little effort goes a long way in a budget hotel. Recently refurbished, the rooms of this two star hotel are decorated to a good standard with fashionable prints and colourful bed linens. It’s location isn’t bad either, based in a central quiet street only a short (20 minute) walk to Musée du Louvre and many other of the capital’s favourite attractions.
