Brighton is one of the most colourful and vibrant cities in Europe. It is a fun, bohemian and compact tourist destination that attracts around 8 million visitors a year. The derelict West Pier first opened in 1866, but since closing in 1975 has been the victim of several fires and decay from the elements. Hopes to restore the pier to its former glory have all but faded, after Heritage Lottery Funding was withdrawn.
