We’re heading to Sabah, Malaysia #LoveSabah

Sabah

Like many other fresh faced backpackers, South East Asia is where I first fell in love with travel but there was one place I didn’t make it to that I’ve always longed to go back. Sabah, is one of two Malaysian states on the island of Borneo which is renowned for its incredible beauty – Lonely Planet even calls it ‘one of the most physically stunning places on Earth’ and this Saturday I’ll be fulfilling my dream and flying out there with group of other bloggers as part of the #LoveSabah trip.

Deep green rain forests, imposing mountains, sparkling oceans and dreamy white beaches will make up most of the scenery (and of course that’s not forgetting the very cute orang-utans). A place for both adventure and romance we have an exciting packed itinerary ahead highlighting exactly what makes this place so special. We’ll also be investigating why Sabah makes a dream destination for a wedding or a honeymoon. Here’s some of what we’ll be up to:

Day 1

  • Arrive at Kota Kinabalu, dinner at Sutera Harbour and an overnight stay at The Pacific Sutera Harbour.

Day 2

Gaya Island

  • We’ll take the Coral Flyer Zip Line from Gaya Island to Sapi Island (the world’s longest island to island zip line- eek!).
  • Snorkelling, spa and lunch at the beautiful Gaya Island Resort.
  • An open-air seafood BBQ in the town and then hitting the bars by the Waterfront.
  • Staying overnight in The Pacific Sutera Harbour.

Day 3

  • A day trip to Kinabalu Park Malaysia’s first World Heritage Site and Poring Hot Springs.
  • Dinner at Mgaellan Sutera Harbour and overnight at The Pacific Sutera Harbour.

Day 6

  • Overnight stay at Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria.

Day 7

  • We’ll either be heading to Mari Mari Cultural Village or a cooking class.
  • Overnight stay at Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria.

Day 8

  • Heading to Kota Kinabalu City Centre for Gaya Street Sunday Market and a city tour.
  • We’re flying to Brunei to explore the pint sized but oil rich country. Follow our next part of the trip on #TasteofBrunei (we’ll be returning home on the 18th November).

The trip has been managed by iambassador in partnership with Sabah Tourism and Royal Brunei Airlines. I’ll also be joined by Terry and Sarah from Live Share Travel, Abigail King from Inside the Travel Lab, Niamh Shields from Eat Like a Girl and Elizabeth from Bridal Musings. The talented videographers Lea and Nicolas of Lea et Nicolas will also be filming the trip.

Be sure to follow us the hashtag #LoveSabah and then #TasteofBrunei on the last leg of the journey. It would be fair to say I’m very excited about this trip – not long now!

With roots in Bavaria, a home in England and a heart in Scandinavia I've always been a restless soul. My first true adventure began as a six month voyage around South East Asia as a fresh faced backpacker and ever since I've lived a semi nomadic existence, clocking up over 35 countries on trips and living in both Dublin and Australia. I'm a lover of US Road Trips, deserted beaches bathed in warm glow of a sunset, Cuban mojitos, easy-on-the-eye travel destinations away from the crowds and all things Scandinavian - from cloudberry liquors to Scandi Noirs. When not travelling, you'll find me walking my rescue dog in leafy South West London, wandering the Brighton Laines on random day trips, hunting around for photogenic landscapes or daydreaming about returning to my all time favourite places in the world - Havana, Copenhagen, Italy, Thailand and the frozen landscapes of a wintry Iceland.
